Guipuzcoana Federation of Adapted Sports has launched a program to boost to the sport of children with disabilities with the aim of improving their quality of life and raise their self esteem.

This program has received 18,000 euros through a collaboration agreement Social Work with the Caixa has been signed this morning in San Sebastian by the president of the federation, Mikel Izaguirre, and business area director of the Caixa in San Sebastian, Angel Garabieta, as reported by the financial institution .

The program has the objective of improving the motor skills of children with disabilities and their autonomy and their ability to interact with other children in order to promote and facilitate the initiation of this group in the world of sport. According

Program activities will take place two days a week in the municipalities of San Sebastián Gipuzkoa, Elgoibar, Hondarribia, Zarautz and Urnieta.

In total there are 15 groups of children that have been organized by type of disability.

Izaguirre stated that it is the responsibility both of the sports federation and public institutions to respond adequately to the demand of parents who have children with disabilities.

"Physical activity of children is crucial to enhance their independence, psychomotor recovery and acquisition of healthy habits," he added.
